Bay Area Clubs

 

These are currently the most active clubs in the San Francisco area with fairly regular dances.  Other places have occasional dances.  For directions and a complete listing of clubs, see below. 

 

Ashkenaz (Berkeley): http://www.ashkenaz.com.  1317 San Pablo Ave. (at Gilman): 510-525-5024. Cajun or Zydeco dances 4-5 times a month including dance lessons.  C/Z dances are generally Tuesday or Wednesday nights plus one Saturday a month.  Directions: Take the Gilman Ave. exit from Hwy. 80.  Drive about 1 mile east to San Pablo.  Club is on the right corner across from the shopping center (where you can park).

 

Eagle’s Hall (Alameda): http://sfzydeco.com.  2305 Alameda Ave. (near Park St.) 415-285-6285. Dances are held every Friday night.  Lesson from 8-9; band from 9-12:30.  Dances are also held occasionally on Saturday nights and Sunday afternoons.  Directions From SF: From Bay Bridge, take I-880 SOUTH RAMP towards ALAMEDA/AIRPORT/SAN JOSE. Take the exit towards 23RD AVENUE/ALAMEDA. Go straight off ramp, thru 1st light. Curve right & go over Park St Bridge. Drive through downtown Alameda on Park St. Turn right on Alameda. From South Bay: Take 880 North to High Street (NOTE: High Street is just past the coliseum).  Turn left on High Street.  Stay on High Street, cross the bridge, keep going and you'll end up in residential section.  Go about 1-2 miles and turn right on Central.  (It’s one block past Santa Clara Ave.)  Go about a mile and turn left at the second light which is Park.  Go 1 block and turn right on Alameda Ave.  Eagle's Hall is one block down on the right.  Building is on the right. Dance is upstairs.

 

Monroe Dance Hall (Santa Rosa): 1400 W. College.  707-829-0234. Dances are held one or two Saturdays a month. 

 

Rancho Nicasio (Nicasio):  http://www.ranchonicasio.com.  On the Town Square.  415-662-2219. A Cajun or Zydeco band is generally booked every month or two. 

 

W. Sacramento Moose Lodge (West Sacramento): 3240 Jefferson Blvd. 916-371-6303. Dances every month or two – either Thursday, Friday or Saturday night.   

 

Other places with occasional dances:

 

23 Club (Brisbane): 23 Visitacion Ave. 415-467-7717.   Dances held occasionally.  Generally Sunday nights.  Directions: From San Francisco, take 101-S to the Sierra Point/Brisbane exit, not far past Monster Park (formerly Candlestick Park). Basically, you'll just be following the signs into Downtown Brisbane. The exit winds right then turns left. At the 1st stop sign, take the right & go around the lake towards the hills. At the next stop sign at the T (Tunnel Ave), turn left and go over the bridge to the traffic light. Go straight across Bayshore Blvd (a shopping center is on the right) to Old County Road which turns into Visitacion. The 23 Club is on the block past the post office, on the left. From South Bay: take Brisbane/Cow Palace exit off 101 to Bayshore Blvd towards Brisbane. Turn left on Old Country Road which turns into Visitacion.

Baja Cantina (Carmel Valley): http://bajacantinacarmel.com.  7166 Carmel Valley Rd. 831-625-2252. 

 

Baltic Pub (Point Richmond): http://www.balticsquarepub.com.  135 Park Place.  510-237-4781. 

 

Biscuits and Blues (San Francisco): http://biscuitsandblues.com. 401 Mason Street. 415-292-BLUE.  Cajun or Zydeco bands are booked a few times a year.

Roundtree’s (Berkeley): 2618 San Pablo Ave.  510-253-7633

 

St. Francis of Assisi (East Palo Alto): 1425 Bay Road. 650-322-5155. Dances are generally every 3 months on a Saturday night.  An outdoor festival is also usually behind the church once a year.
